Nigeria, France Strengthen Livestock Development Partnership

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to working with France to support the development of Nigeria's livestock sector. The assurance came during a visit by a delegation from the French Development Agency (AFD) to the Ministry of Livestock Development in Abuja.

Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, said AFD has expressed interest in supporting the Federal Government's livestock transformation agenda, including President Bola Tinubu's National Ranching Policy. He said the partnership will focus on developing selected grazing reserves into pilot ranches to reduce transhumance, improve livestock production, and promote peace, security and sustainable rural development.

Maiha added that the collaboration will also support the implementation of the Nigeria Livestock Growth Acceleration Strategy, the National Livestock Master Plan, and the Nigeria Livestock Economic Advancement Project.

AFD Country Director for Nigeria, Jacky Amprou, said the agency is ready to provide financial and technical support for the sustainable growth of Nigeria's livestock sector. He also noted that AFD has a long history of supporting grazing reserve rehabilitation in Nigeria, including projects carried out in Kwara State.
