NALDA Rolls Out Fish Villages, Poultry Clusters Across Nigeria

The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) says it has begun plans to establish fish villages and integrated poultry clusters across Nigeria to boost agricultural production. Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Cornelius Adebayo, announced the plan during a media briefing in Abuja.

Adebayo said the pilot fish village project has started in Akwa Ibom State, where the state government has provided land for the initiative. He said the project is expected to support fish farmers, increase fish production and create opportunities for local consumption and export.

He explained that earlier fish centres built by NALDA in Borno and some northern states have not achieved the expected results due to insecurity. He added that the new initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the country's food system.

The NALDA boss also said work is ongoing on integrated farm estates and poultry facilities across the country. He disclosed that a major poultry project in Katsina State will have the capacity to accommodate more than 400,000 birds.

Adebayo said the agency is working with relevant ministries to improve agricultural infrastructure through land development and other interventions. He added that the goal is to increase food production and support the Federal Government's agricultural development plans.
