The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved projects and programmes worth more than ₦9 billion to support livestock development, healthcare, education and workers' welfare. The approvals were made during a council meeting chaired by Governor Umar Namadi.
The council approved ₦3.341 billion for the state's dairy production programme to boost livestock production, create jobs and improve household incomes. It also approved ₦923.67 million for the 2026 workers' agricultural support programme to encourage civil servants to participate in farming and strengthen food security.
The government also raised the minimum monthly pension for retirees from ₦12,000 to ₦20,000, effective July 1. An annual sum of ₦2.069 billion was approved to fund the increase for state and local government pensioners.
To improve healthcare services, the council approved ₦2.136 billion for the installation of solar power systems at four hospitals across the state. Another ₦581.668 million was approved to purchase vehicles and computer equipment for the State Senior Secondary Education Board and agencies under the Ministry of Higher Education to improve administration and service delivery.
The council also directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the State Emergency Management Agency to provide emergency relief to victims of the recent rainstorm. It assured residents that support would continue for affected communities and urged the public to observe safety measures during the rainy season.
