Solomon Breweries Strengthens Support for Smallholder Pig Farmers

Solomon Breweries has held its annual engagement meeting with smallholder pig farmers, bringing together 30 informal-sector farmers participating in the company's spent grain distribution programme.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the company and farmers to exchange feedback, share updates and strengthen their partnership.

According to feedback from participants, the initiative has helped lower pig feed costs for many farmers. About 42 percent of those involved said access to free spent grain has reduced their weekly feed expenses, with some reporting savings of up to 50 percent.

Solomon Breweries Corporate Affairs Manager, Qila Tuhanuku, said the programme has supported local pig farmers since 2018 by helping to cut production costs for small-scale piggeries.

She added that the initiative also helps reduce waste by reusing spent grain generated during the brewing process instead of sending it to landfill sites.

The company said the programme remains part of its efforts to support livelihoods and promote income generation among low-income communities through small-scale pig farming.
