The Dat-AI-Lab, a partnership between Penn Vet and agricultural technology company AgriGates, is already collecting data from swine and dairy animals to better understand animal behaviour and strengthen livestock care.
Researchers say the project will use artificial intelligence to support early disease detection, improve animal welfare and help farmers make better management decisions. The initiative is also expected to address labour challenges by providing tools that can analyse large amounts of data more efficiently.
Officials said the lab could eventually expand its research to other animal species as interest grows from institutions in the United States and Europe.
