The three-day workshop, held in Accra, Ghana, brought together 23 experts and senior government officials from nine West African countries, along with development partners and financial institutions.
Implemented under the second phase of the Regional Sahel Pastoralism Support Project and funded by the World Bank, the programme focused on strengthening national capacity in livestock policy analysis, investment planning and environmental assessment.
Since its launch in Dakar, Senegal, in November 2023, the initiative has trained experts to assess the economic, social and environmental impacts of livestock investments using specialised analytical tools.
Participating countries produced 18 country reports and policy briefs to support decision-making and identify investment opportunities in pastoral and agropastoral systems.
The workshop also provided a platform for discussions on how these tools can support livestock policies, crisis prevention and financing strategies across the region.
At the end of the meeting, participants agreed on a roadmap to improve data harmonisation and strengthen regional cooperation to support sustainable livestock development in the Sahel.
