FG Steps Up Livestock Reforms to Boost Investment and Dairy Production

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to unlock the economic potential of Nigeria's livestock sector through the implementation of the National Ranching Policy and other development programmes aimed at increasing dairy production and creating jobs.

Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, disclosed this during a visit to major livestock and dairy facilities in Plateau State, including Integrated Dairies Limited, Bach Farms and Lush Farms. He said the government is promoting policies that will position livestock farming as a key contributor to economic growth and improve livelihoods across the country.

Maiha revealed that projects underway in Plateau State include the construction of boreholes, establishment of milk collection centres, development of grazing facilities and creation of training centres for young people. He added that plans are also being made for a youth livestock training programme that will provide practical skills in animal production and agribusiness.

The minister called on private investors to explore opportunities in dairy processing, feed production, pig farming and fodder development, while reaffirming the government's commitment to strengthening the livestock value chain through collaboration with state governments and industry operators.
