At a Government Council meeting chaired by Aziz Akhannouch, the Minister of Agriculture said the national livestock sector remains stable ahead of the festival.

Officials said Morocco’s livestock population is estimated at nearly 40 million animals, with between 8 and 9 million sheep and goats available for Eid sacrifice. That figure is above the expected demand of 6 to 7 million animals.

National Office for Food Safety said about 95 percent of female livestock have been preserved since August 2025, totaling nearly 20 million animals, not including recent births. Authorities said this is expected to support market supply and maintain herd numbers.

During the same meeting, the government approved additional budget funding for 2026 to respond to global economic pressures, including the effects of instability in the Middle East.

Government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas said the funds will help support stable prices for butane gas, electricity and transport services.

The council also approved a draft law to create a special employment framework for workers in regional and municipal administrations as part of local government reforms.

In addition, officials noted a bilateral agreement between Morocco and Burkina Faso on mutual recognition of driving licences, signed in December 2025.
