FG Seeks Stronger Partnerships to Sustain Livestock Reforms

The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, has called for stronger partnerships to sustain ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s livestock sector.

Maiha spoke during a meeting with representatives of the UK-funded SPRiNG Programme at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja. The delegation was led by the programme’s Team Leader, Ukoha Ukiwo.

The minister said the programme’s technical support came at an important time and had helped the Ministry improve operations and carry out key projects. He said the next phase should focus on maintaining current progress and turning reforms into long-term results for the sector.

Maiha also commended the programme’s support for peace and security efforts in conflict-affected communities, noting that stable communities would improve livestock production and economic activities.

He further praised SPRiNG’s support for the Ministry’s communication system, saying it had improved stakeholder engagement and official communication.

Earlier, Ukiwo said the programme remained committed to supporting livestock development in Nigeria through cooperation in areas such as peacebuilding, strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, and institutional development.

Both sides also discussed future collaboration on livestock data systems, pilot animal identification projects, and programmes aimed at supporting women and youths in the livestock value chain.
