The White House said on Sunday that China will buy U.S. farm products at an annual rate of 17 billion dollars in 2026 and maintain that level through 2027 and 2028. The agreement comes two days after Trump returned from a summit in Beijing aimed at reducing the effects of the trade war on American farmers.

Under the deal, China will reopen its market to U.S. beef and resume poultry imports from U.S. states certified by the United States Department of Agriculture as free from bird flu. The White House said these commitments are in addition to China’s previous soybean purchase agreements.

The development offers some relief to U.S. farmers who have faced reduced exports since the trade dispute began. Farmers are also dealing with rising production costs linked to disruptions in global shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which has affected fertilizer supplies and pushed prices higher.
