Olam Agri Commissions $50m Soybean Plant, Feed Mill in Kwara

Olam Agri has opened a $50 million soybean crushing plant and feed mill in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The company says the facility is the largest of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa, with a processing capacity of between 250,000 and 350,000 metric tonnes of soybeans per year.

The plant will source most of its soybeans from local farmers, a move aimed at strengthening local supply and reducing imports.

The operation supports the firm’s subsidiary, Ruyat Oil, and supplies raw materials to an on-site feed mill that produces poultry and aquaculture feed.

Olam Agri says the development builds on its existing operations in Kwara and Kaduna states, where it already runs feed mills and an aqua feed plant.

At the launch, the company also introduced a new product, Mama’s Pride Soya Oil, described as a refined cooking oil for the Nigerian market.

Africa Head of Edible Oil Processing, Saurabh Kumar, said the product was developed for everyday use in Nigerian homes.

Head of Marketing, Bola Adeniji, said the product meets safety and nutrition standards and urged support to curb adulterated oils in the market.

The product is available nationwide in different package sizes.

Country Head and Managing Director, Anil Nair, said the company will continue to invest in food production, safety, and value chain development in Nigeria.
