Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, stated this while receiving representatives of Omrantech Trading Company from Saudi Arabia and Baba Frayo Investment Ltd during a meeting in Abuja. The visit focused on possible investment and offtake partnerships in red meat production and other areas of the agricultural value chain.

Maiha said Nigeria’s livestock market is valued at over 32 billion dollars, with potential to grow to 74 billion dollars within ten years. He noted that the government plans to improve key areas such as animal breeding, feed production, disease control, processing, cold storage, and export systems.

The Minister added that Nigeria’s large population and increasing demand for meat provide a strong domestic market, while its location offers shorter export routes to Gulf countries where demand for red meat is rising. He also said the government is ready to support investors with access to land and clear policies.

Discussions at the meeting also covered opportunities in feed production, veterinary services, leather processing, and infrastructure development. Both sides highlighted the need to strengthen food security and improve supply chains.

Speaking for the delegation, Omrantech Chairman, Dr. Ali Fahd Ajouf, said Nigeria presents strong investment potential and could serve as a key entry point into Africa’s agricultural sector. He added that the company plans to return with detailed proposals after further assessments.
