Morocco has begun a new phase of financial support for livestock farmers after completing a nationwide verification of female sheep and goats used for breeding. The process was carried out to confirm that farmers retained the animals previously counted and tagged during a national campaign held from June 26 to August 11.
According to officials, the programme follows royal instructions to rebuild Morocco’s livestock population, which has faced difficulties in recent years. The verification exercise is being carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, with local committees deployed across all regions.
The Ministry added that farmers will receive the payments using the same channels as the first round, including bank transfers and money orders. The livestock support programme will conclude after the second payment is completed.
About 1.1 million livestock breeders benefited from the first installment of the support, which had a budget allocation of 5.5 billion Moroccan dirhams.
Earlier, on January 7, the Ministry said about 32.3 million animals were identified and tagged during a national livestock census. The data from the census was used to determine farmers eligible for the financial support.
The Ministry also said it is reviewing complaints from farmers who were counted but did not benefit from the tagging process and will address the cases according to established procedures.
