Gombe Partners New Zealand Firm on Livestock Innovation

The Gombe State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Livestock Innovation Corporation of New Zealand to modernise livestock production, improve climate resilience and expand economic opportunities in the sector. The agreement followed a two-day technical visit to the corporation’s innovation facilities in Hamilton by a delegation led by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

The partnership will focus on data-driven livestock management systems and climate-smart, sustainable production practices. According to a statement by the governor’s Director-General on Press Affairs, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, both sides will also pursue joint research initiatives, with possible collaboration involving Gombe State University.

The statement added that the agreement will explore opportunities in genetics and biotechnology, including the possible introduction of New Zealand dairy and beef genetics. Governor Yahaya said the partnership supports the state’s agricultural transformation plans and aligns with federal livestock development efforts.

The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, expressed support for the initiative. LIC International Dairy Development Manager Jason Schrier described the agreement as a step toward long-term benefits for farmers. Founded in 1909, the Livestock Innovation Corporation provides genetics, herd management software and advisory services to dairy farmers worldwide.
