Oyo LGA Donates Prime Land to Anchor Modern Veterinary Hospital, Boosting Livestock Care

Oluyole Local Government has taken a decisive step toward transforming livestock healthcare in Oyo State with the donation of a prime parcel of land for a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital. The initiative, championed by the council chairman, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, is set to redefine animal health services while strengthening farmers’ livelihoods across the area.

Plans for the facility fall under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, known as Oyo-LPRES, a programme designed to modernise animal healthcare and improve productivity. Once completed, the hospital will offer advanced diagnostic services, routine and emergency vaccination, and other critical interventions aimed at reducing disease outbreaks and boosting livestock output. Expectations are high that the centre will become a reference point for quality veterinary care and innovation within the state.

During an inspection visit to the proposed site at the Oluyole Local Government Secretariat in Idi-Ayunre, Olatunji formally handed over the land to the Oyo-LPRES team. He assured stakeholders that the location was fully prepared for development, citing existing security arrangements, accessible road networks, and a dependable power supply that can be easily connected to the project.

According to the council chairman, the decision reflects the broader vision of Governor Seyi Makinde on food security and public safety, particularly as it relates to meat production and consumption. Stronger livestock healthcare, he noted, translates directly into safer food and a more resilient agricultural economy. Commitment to collaboration with public and private partners, he added, remains central to ensuring that farm animals, pets, and other livestock are no longer exposed to preventable health risks due to limited access to modern facilities.

Olatunji described the land donation as a legacy-driven choice rather than a financial calculation, stressing that development should be measured by lasting impact on lives. He reaffirmed his administration’s determination to build an Oluyole that future generations will be proud to inherit.

Oyo-LPRES State Coordinator, Alhaji Kola Kazeem, praised the local government and state leadership for their shared commitment to agriculture and agribusiness growth. He explained that the proposed hospital would be equipped with modern infrastructure and cutting-edge equipment capable of delivering top-tier veterinary services, ultimately improving the wellbeing of farmers and their communities.

Momentum around the project signals a new chapter for livestock development in Oyo State, positioning Oluyole as a growing hub for sustainable agriculture and innovation.
