Ekiti Advances Plans for Model Veterinary Hospital With Land Handover in Ado-Ekiti

Ekiti State has taken a significant step toward strengthening livestock healthcare with the formal handover of land for the construction of a Model Veterinary Hospital in Ado-Ekiti. The project, being implemented under the World Bank-supported Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) initiative, is expected to improve access to quality veterinary services and support the growth of the state’s livestock sector.

Addressing stakeholders at the handover ceremony, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Ebenezer Boluwade, described the hospital as a strategic investment that will enhance animal health, reduce disease outbreaks and improve productivity for livestock farmers. He explained that the facility is designed to provide modern diagnostic and treatment services while serving as a reliable support centre for farmers across Ekiti.

Plans for the hospital also include its role as a referral and training centre for veterinarians and animal health professionals. According to Boluwade, this approach will help build technical capacity within the sector and promote better livestock management practices that align with national and international standards.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ojo Babatope, said the completion of the land handover removes a major obstacle to the project’s implementation. He noted that the state government remains committed to ensuring smooth construction and sustained support for the facility once completed.

L-PRES State Project Coordinator, Mr. Olayinka Adedipe, commended the state for fulfilling key requirements needed to move the project forward. He expressed optimism that the hospital will contribute significantly to disease control, improved animal welfare and increased income opportunities for rural livestock producers.

Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Adedamola Fasoranti, highlighted the public health value of the project, explaining that improved disease surveillance and biosecurity measures will help protect both animals and residents. With the land now secured, stakeholders say the project marks a decisive move toward a more resilient and productive livestock sector in Ekiti State.
