Morocco’s Aquaculture Push Accelerates with Fresh Investments and New Projects

Morocco’s aquaculture sector is gathering pace as strong investment and project execution signal a new phase of growth for the industry. The National Agency for Aquaculture Development (ANDA) says 2025 marked a turning point, with 184 aquaculture projects now fully installed and operational, targeting a combined output of more than 75,000 tonnes. These ventures represent investments of about MAD 1.76 billion and have already created over 2,300 direct jobs across the country.

Momentum is expected to build further as another 62 projects move closer to completion. Once commissioned, they are projected to add nearly 14,600 tonnes to national production capacity, backed by investments estimated at MAD 307 million and the creation of around 520 additional jobs. ANDA described the progress as evidence of a sector that is becoming more structured and increasingly mature.

Looking ahead, the agency’s 2026 action plan aligns with Morocco’s broader 2025–2027 fisheries strategy, placing aquaculture at the heart of national development priorities. The plan centres on expanding investment opportunities, opening new farming zones and strengthening the skills base of industry players through modernized production systems and improved technical and managerial capacity.

Improving product quality, traceability and competitiveness also features prominently, as Morocco seeks to position its aquaculture output more strongly in both domestic and export markets. Authorities believe these steps will help unlock greater value from the sector while ensuring sustainability and resilience.

To support investors, ANDA is preparing to launch an integrated digital platform that will fully digitize the aquaculture investment process. The one-stop system is designed to simplify procedures, cut processing times and improve transparency, making it easier for both local and international investors to do business.

ANDA says the direction set for 2026 reflects a clear ambition to make aquaculture a key driver of sustainable growth, in line with Morocco’s vision of building a blue economy that is inclusive, responsible and future-focused.
