Nigeria, Egypt Forge Partnership to Boost Livestock Feed and Pasture Production

Nigeria’s drive to transform its livestock industry has gained new momentum as the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, welcomed a consortium of Egyptian investors planning to establish feed and pasture production centres across the country. The minister described animal feed as Nigeria’s “biggest gap and greatest opportunity,” stressing that fixing it would unlock the true potential of the nation’s livestock sector.

During a meeting with representatives of Nutrivet Misr LLC of Egypt and K.K. Kingdom Limited in Abuja, Maiha applauded the partnership as a timely intervention. He noted that poor animal nutrition remains one of the most pressing challenges limiting productivity among local herders and farmers. With proper feeding, he said, milk yields could rise dramatically—from just one or two litres a day to as much as eight.

The minister assured the investors of the Federal Government’s full backing, promising policies that would encourage sustainable operations and facilitate collaboration with state governments. Plans are already underway to establish demonstration farms and milk collection centres to ensure efficient distribution and farmer participation across the country.

Maiha also urged the partners to incorporate genetic conservation, animal health management, and diverse feed formulations—including creep feed for young animals and products tailored for small ruminants—to strengthen the value chain. “We will work with you all the way,” he said. “Nigeria is Africa’s largest livestock market, and this partnership will help us build a stronger feed base, boost productivity, and create thousands of jobs.”

Chairman of Nutrivet Misr LLC, Alaa Ibrahim Mahmoud, and President of K.K. Kingdom Limited, Alhaji Khalifa Naziru Abdullahi, expressed confidence that their proven model in Egypt could deliver measurable progress in Nigeria. They praised the minister’s commitment and reaffirmed their dedication to long-term collaboration that promotes sustainable livestock growth and mutual economic benefit for both nations.
