Kaduna to Pioneer $450 Million Nigeria–China Poultry Project

Kaduna State is taking center stage in a groundbreaking agricultural partnership between Nigeria and China, set to redefine the country’s poultry industry. The pilot phase of the Nigeria–China Poultry Project will launch in Kaduna, with projections of over $450 million in revenue and more than 350,000 jobs to be created across the value chain.

Governor Uba Sani revealed the development during a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, and the leadership of the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership (NCSP). He described the collaboration as a major leap in Kaduna’s vision to become Africa’s hub for agricultural and industrial growth. The governor credited President Bola Tinubu for choosing Kaduna as the project’s pilot site — a decision he said reflects the state’s strong leadership and capacity in agribusiness.

According to Governor Sani, agriculture already contributes 43 percent to Kaduna’s GDP and employs over 60 percent of its citizens. He emphasized that the poultry project will boost productivity, strengthen food security, and expand economic opportunities across rural communities. “This partnership aligns perfectly with our development agenda of building an inclusive and resilient economy anchored on sustainable agriculture,” he said.

Ambassador Yu Dunhai praised Kaduna’s commitment to creating an investor-friendly climate, noting that its stability and proactive governance have made it a preferred destination for global partnerships. He affirmed China’s readiness to work closely with the state to deliver lasting benefits for both countries.

The Director-General of the NCSP, Joseph Tegbe, highlighted the government’s swift approval of over 7,000 hectares for the project’s immediate take-off, with construction expected to begin in December. Covering 10,000 hectares, the initiative will also include maize and soybean cultivation to produce feedstock for poultry operations.

Governor Sani reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to pursue transformative partnerships that drive inclusive economic growth, empower local farmers, and position Kaduna as Nigeria’s agricultural powerhouse. “This project is not just about poultry — it’s about prosperity, productivity, and a shared future,” he said.
