Morocco’s livestock sector is receiving a major financial boost as 756,000 breeders have now benefited from the government’s direct subsidy program, according to Government Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas. The support package has already disbursed more than MAD 3.17 billion, marking a significant step toward stabilizing the national herd and easing pressures on rural communities.

Baitas explained during a post–cabinet briefing that these beneficiaries now account for nearly 77% of all breeders enrolled in the national herd restructuring initiative. He emphasized that the program—backed by a total budget of MAD 12.8 billion and divided into two phases—is advancing steadily and delivering results where they matter most.
The first phase alone, valued at MAD 6 billion, is designed to provide direct financial relief for essential needs such as feed purchases, the upkeep of breeding ewes and goats, debt management and strengthened vaccination and technical assistance services. Officials say these interventions are helping breeders protect their livestock, recover from recent economic strains and prepare for a more resilient production cycle.
