Addressing delegates, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, Dr. Chinyere Akujobi, explained that the newly created Council will function as the country’s highest platform for guiding livestock policy and ensuring coordinated action. She said the structure is built to strengthen partnerships, channel resources effectively and deliver meaningful impact to Nigerians.
Dr. Akujobi noted that the Ministry is pushing forward policies designed to boost productivity, drive inclusive growth and build resilience within the sector. She highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade existing programmes while introducing fresh, innovative strategies that will position Nigeria as a global contender in livestock production.
She underscored the alignment of these initiatives with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places food security, job creation, economic diversification and increased export capacity at the forefront of national development. According to her, the livestock industry remains central to achieving these ambitions.
The Permanent Secretary urged stakeholders to use the gathering as an opportunity to chart a strong future for livestock development, emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to enabling investment, strengthening value chains and expanding wealth-creation opportunities for women, youth and rural communities.
Her remarks ended on a note of optimism, expressing confidence that the meeting would deliver concrete actions capable of building a livestock sector that is productive, equitable and globally competitive.
