Abia, Barn Holding Group Seal Landmark Partnership to Transform Livestock Industry

Governor Alex Otti has unveiled plans to partner with Barn Holding Group, a leading agribusiness conglomerate, to launch a massive livestock and dairy development project that promises to reshape Abia State’s agricultural landscape.

The multi-billion-naira initiative, designed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, aims to create tens of thousands of jobs, generate significant revenue for the state, and strengthen food security. Governor Otti described the project as a bold step toward agricultural transformation and a key driver of inclusive economic growth.

Speaking during a presentation by Barn Holding Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Tony Jibuno, the Governor praised the proposal as an “innovative and practical” blueprint for modern farming. He stressed that agriculture remains central to Nigeria’s sustainable development and reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to provide every necessary support to ensure the project’s success.

To move swiftly, the Governor set up a five-member government team to collaborate with the company on technical details, financing models, and site assessments. “The devil is always in the details,” he cautioned. “We must dot all the i’s and cross the t’s before moving to the site location.” He also confirmed that land would be provided either in Okoko Item—where the project was initially proposed—or in Umunneochi, depending on which site offers better accessibility and expansion potential.

Governor Otti emphasized that the project aligns perfectly with Abia’s vision for modern livestock management and ranching, noting that open grazing is outdated and unsustainable. He expressed optimism that the venture will modernize livestock production, empower local farmers, and position Abia as a hub for agribusiness innovation.

Barn Holding Group’s CEO, Engr. Jibuno, revealed that the company plans to revitalize the Okoko Livestock Farm and establish a feedlot and abattoir at Umunneochi. The cattle ranch, he added, will also function as a disease-control and livestock traceability center, helping to improve the quality and safety of animal products entering the state.

Jibuno explained that the project will serve as a training and demonstration center to equip farmers with hands-on knowledge in modern livestock and dairy production. It is expected to create over 20,000 jobs, produce 2,000 tonnes of beef annually, and become a regional model for sustainable agribusiness. He urged the government to allocate an additional 500 hectares around Okoko to guarantee long-term viability and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to boosting local production while reducing dependence on imports.
