Bauchi South is witnessing a new wave of agricultural empowerment as Senator Shehu Buba Umar rolls out a major intervention to support both crop and livestock farmers in the region. At a vibrant ceremony in Bauchi, the senator officially flagged off the distribution of seven trucks of free fertilizer, a move designed to boost agricultural productivity and reduce the financial burden on local farmers as they prepare for the next planting season.

Senator Buba, addressing a gathering of farmers, political leaders, and community stakeholders, described the initiative as part of his broader vision to enhance food security and uplift rural livelihoods. He emphasized the importance of supporting both arable and pastoral agriculture, noting that peace, prosperity, and sustainability in Bauchi South depend heavily on the health of its agricultural sector.
The senator’s efforts go beyond fertilizer distribution. Over the weekend, he launched a livestock vaccination campaign targeting more than 85,000 animals, including cattle, goats, and sheep. The campaign, which began in Gwabiya, Bogoro Local Government Area, aims to prevent disease outbreaks and improve animal health across all communities in the district. Senator Buba highlighted the importance of this effort in ensuring that herders do not suffer devastating losses during disease seasons.
Veterinary teams have already begun fanning out across Bauchi South to deliver the vaccines directly to herders, with a focus on reaching even the most remote settlements. This expanded effort follows the success of a similar campaign earlier in the year, which saw 40,000 animals vaccinated in Buzaye, Bauchi Local Government Area. Senator Buba said the new campaign reflects his determination to extend the benefits of good governance to every corner of his constituency.
At both events, the senator urged the fertilizer distribution committee and veterinary teams to maintain transparency, equity, and professionalism in carrying out their tasks. His message was clear: these interventions must directly benefit the people they’re intended to serve.
Community leaders, including representatives from the Fulani pastoralist community, were full of praise for the senator. They lauded his hands-on approach to addressing the needs of farmers and herders alike, and presented him with traditional gifts as a mark of gratitude and respect.
The events were attended by a cross-section of notable personalities, including Hon. Aminu Tukur, Hon. Buli, and Hon. Yusuf, alongside hundreds of farmers, herders, and party loyalists. Their presence reflected a growing recognition of Senator Buba’s commitment to agricultural development and rural stability.
With these efforts, Senator Shehu Buba Umar is not only tackling food insecurity head-on but also building bridges between farming communities and government—laying the foundation for long-term prosperity in Bauchi South.
