Punjab is intensifying its battle against illegal livestock breeding, sending a clear message that unauthorized practices will no longer be tolerated. A recent high-profile raid in Lahore uncovered a staggering 931 unregistered semen doses at a major private distribution company, exposing a shadowy network operating outside the law. The operation, spearheaded by Dr. Mujahid, Deputy Director of Lahore City Tehsil, revealed that the seized genetic material came from a mix of local and foreign breeds—none registered with the Livestock Breeding Services Authority (LBSA), Punjab’s watchdog for breeding standards.

This crackdown is far from isolated. Across the province, enforcement teams have launched sweeping inspections that have led to 11 FIRs against individuals and companies involved in illicit artificial insemination practices. From Kasur to Gujranwala, unauthorized Artificial Insemination Technicians and semen distributors are being held accountable, signaling a crackdown that spans districts and threatens illegal operations everywhere.
The Livestock Department is calling on breeders and farmers to be vigilant and rely solely on registered professionals and legitimate sources for their breeding needs. Punjab Livestock Secretary Ahmad Aziz Tarar didn’t mince words when he vowed relentless action: “Such unlawful businesses will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
Backing this tough stance, Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Director General (Extension), stressed the critical importance of using only trained, certified personnel for artificial insemination. His message is clear—protecting farmers’ investments and improving livestock quality depend on rooting out illegal activities and enforcing regulations with unwavering resolve. Punjab’s livestock sector is entering a new era of accountability, where the integrity of breeding practices will be fiercely guarded.
