Ekiti Launches Bid for State-of-the-Art Ultra-Modern Abattoir in Ado-Ekiti

 In a bold step toward revolutionizing meat processing and boosting livestock productivity, Ekiti State’s Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) officially opened bids for the construction of a cutting-edge dual-function abattoir in Ado-Ekiti. The event, held Wednesday, was marked by a firm commitment to transparency and adherence to global best procurement practices, ensuring a fair and competitive contract award process.

Addressing stakeholders, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, highlighted the government’s vision to elevate meat hygiene standards and enhance the livelihoods of livestock farmers. He stressed the importance of an open bidding process, reassuring all contractors of a level playing field governed by strict regulatory compliance. “This facility will be a game-changer for food safety and livestock value chains in Ekiti,” Boluwade declared.

Echoing this commitment, Mr. James Folorunso, Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, applauded the L-PRES team for their dedication to accountability. Represented by Engr. Omoniyi Adebayo, he urged contractors to strictly follow procurement guidelines, reinforcing the project’s foundation on due process and transparency.

Optimism ran high as Mr. Olayinka Adedipe, State Project Coordinator, emphasized the abattoir’s dual role—serving commercial meat production while ensuring rigorous regulatory oversight. Once completed, the facility promises to set new benchmarks in sanitation, slaughtering, and food safety, transforming Ekiti’s livestock sector.

The bid opening attracted top government officials, including Permanent Secretaries from Agriculture, Finance, and Budget Ministries, and underscored Ekiti’s drive to close critical gaps in food security through innovative infrastructure. This ultra-modern abattoir is poised to be a flagship project in Ekiti’s agricultural transformation journey.
