As World Protein Day is observed on February 27, Poultry India and the Indian Poultry Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) are raising awareness about India’s widespread protein deficiency.
To address this issue, India is promoting affordable and high-quality protein sources, particularly eggs and chicken, to help bridge the nutritional gap affecting millions across the country.
Despite its crucial role in growth and overall health, protein deficiency remains a significant concern in India. Research indicates that nearly 73% of Indians do not consume enough protein, leading to weakened immunity and increased vulnerability to chronic illnesses.
The National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) recommends a daily protein intake of 0.8-1g per kilogram of body weight, yet many Indians fall short due to dietary habits and misconceptions about the cost of protein-rich foods.
Poultry India and IPEMA advocate for eggs and chicken as cost-effective and nutrient-dense solutions. A medium-sized egg provides 6g of high-quality protein along with essential vitamins and minerals, while chicken offers lean protein and vital nutrients like iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Both options are widely available, budget-friendly, and accessible to all economic groups, making them ideal dietary choices.
By raising awareness and promoting nutritional education, Poultry India and IPEMA aim to dispel myths surrounding animal protein and encourage balanced diets.
These initiatives seek to drive behavioral change and improve public health by ensuring more people understand the importance of adequate protein intake for a healthier future.
