The Fulani groups in Nigeria have appealed to the Federal Government to create a Ministry of Livestock Development to address the challenges facing the livestock industry in the country. The groups made this appeal during a meeting with the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Nomadic Education, Prof. Bashiru A. Rafindadi, in Abuja.
According to the Fulani groups, the creation of a Ministry of Livestock Development would help to address the numerous challenges facing the livestock industry, including the lack of infrastructure, inadequate funding, and the absence of a clear policy framework. They also appealed to the government to provide support to Fulani herders who are facing challenges in their daily lives, including the loss of livestock to rustlers and the destruction of their homes by bandits.
The groups also called for the establishment of a National Livestock Development Fund to provide financial support to Fulani herders and other stakeholders in the livestock industry. They also appealed to the government to provide training and capacity-building programs for Fulani herders to improve their skills and knowledge in livestock production.
The Fulani groups also appealed to the government to provide security for Fulani herders and their livestock, as they are often attacked by bandits and rustlers. They also called for the establishment of a National Livestock Development Agency to oversee the development of the livestock industry in the country.
The meeting between the Fulani groups and the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Nomadic Education was part of efforts to address the challenges facing the livestock industry in Nigeria. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Fulani groups, including the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, the Fulani Nationality Movement, and the National Association of Fulani Herders.
In his response, Prof. Rafindadi commended the Fulani groups for their efforts to address the challenges facing the livestock industry in Nigeria. He assured them that the government is committed to addressing the challenges facing the industry and would consider their appeal for the creation of a Ministry of Livestock Development.
