A regional workshop was recently held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, to train state and district Nodal Officers from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on the software, methodologies, and newly launched applications of the 21st Livestock Census. The workshop was organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, and hosted by the Uttar Pradesh government.

The workshop aimed to equip Nodal Officers with the necessary skills to conduct the 21st Livestock Census, scheduled to take place from September to December 2024. The training sessions covered the software and breeds, with a focus on accurate breed identification, which is crucial for producing precise statistics used in various livestock sector programs and for the National Indicator Framework (NIF) of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The workshop was inaugurated by Dharampal Singh, Minister of Animal Husbandry, Government of Uttar Pradesh, who emphasized the need for comprehensive training and capacity building at the grassroots level. He highlighted the importance of the livestock sector in boosting the country's economy and ensuring food security, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, which has the highest number of livestock in India.

The workshop featured a series of sessions, including a brief description of the 21st Livestock Census, a detailed presentation on breed details, and live application of software. The Software team of Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, trained the State and District Nodal Officers on the mobile application and dashboard software.

The Nodal Officers will conduct training for enumerators at their respective District Headquarters, ensuring that the data collected during the census is accurate and reliable. The workshop was a crucial step towards ensuring a comprehensive 21st Livestock Census, which will play a critical role in shaping future policies and programs in the Animal Husbandry sector.
