The devastating impact of mudflows in Kyrgyzstan has been revealed by First Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Azamat Mambetov. The natural disasters have caused widespread destruction, leaving thousands of people affected.
According to Mambetov, the mudflows have washed away over 4,500 houses, 568 hectares of agricultural land, and 404.7 kilometers of road. Additionally, 869 heads of livestock have been lost, and 69 bridges and 87 vehicles have been damaged.
The damage is not limited to infrastructure, as 76 residential buildings are in emergency condition, and 56 houses require major repairs. The affected areas include the Nooken district of Jalal-Abad region, Kadamjay district of Batken region, Nookat and Kara-Suu districts of Osh region, and Osh city.
Despite the severity of the damage, rescue efforts are underway. Mambetov reported that 6,399 rescuers and local residents, along with 1,067 pieces of engineering equipment and a motor pump, have been involved in eliminating the consequences of the mudflows. So far, 4,302 houses, 68 social facilities, 58 kilometers of ditches, and 400 kilometers of roads have been cleaned.
The full extent of the damage may not be known yet, as more mudflows have occurred recently. However, the scale of the destruction is already evident, and the government is working to mitigate the impact of these natural disasters on the affected communities.
