The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has expressed its support for the Federal Government's efforts to promote livestock development and mitigate farmer-herder conflicts. The creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, approved by President Bola Tinubu, is seen as a positive step towards addressing the country's food insecurity challenges.
The ministry will be headed by a committee chaired by President Tinubu, with Professor Attahiru Jega as Vice Chairman. The committee's mandate is to drive the implementation of the ministry's initiatives and ensure that all stakeholders are carried along in the process.
According to Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, acting National Youth Leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, the creation of the ministry is a welcome development that will help to manage and control the frequent killings and destructions associated with livestock business in Nigeria. He commended President Tinubu for his prompt inauguration of the committee and encouraged Prof. Jega and other members to ensure that all stakeholders are involved in the decision-making process.
Okpalaezeukwu also appreciated the decision to review and reposition traditional livestock farming methods with modern technology and stakeholder support, which includes state governments. He expressed support for the President's commitment to promoting peace, stability, and security in Nigeria.
The creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development is seen as a proactive measure to address the country's security and economic challenges, and Ohaneze Ndigbo is urging all stakeholders to work together to achieve the desired outcomes.
