The Poultry Association of Nigeria has urged Nigerians, govt and research agencies to promote egg consumption daily to ensure a healthy living in the society
The National President, Mr. Ezekiel Mam made this known in Abuja while celebrating World Egg Day.
Worldwide,
The World Egg Day is celebrated annually on the second Friday of every month of
October and this year 2020 theme is "Eat your daily and every day".
Mam
identified egg as containing all the basic requirements the body needs,
describing egg consumption as a deliberate contribution to the well-being of
the populace.
"We
are using this period to encourage people that egg should form part of what
they eat daily because it is important to our well-being."
"Egg
is one of nature's highest quality source of protein and indeed contains
many other ingredients for life."
Meanwhile
the Oyo State Chapter, Poultry Association of Nigeria led by Agboola Gbemisoye,
the Chairman said egg is globally accepted as a complete food which is ignore
by many.
He
maintained that the Oyo State Chapter, Poultry Association of Nigeria is
keen and concern to go all around to promote the benefits of taking egg daily
"Egg
is globally accepted as a complete food and such if well-articulated, it can
enhance both the food security and healthy living of the citizens. The Poultry
Association is concerned and this to go all out to promote egg consumption in
the grassroots."
The
Oyo State Chapter celebrated by Commissioning a 16-sitter bus for the
association and also awarding Journalist and stakeholders for their
contribution to the association.
Asiwaju
Taiwo Olusanya, Chairman Poultry Association of Nigeria, Remo Zone, Ogun State
in his speech explained that egg is the most suitable food for human
consumption.
"Egg
is the most suitable food for human consumption. It has not less than 98% body
absorption rate. It is a dietary mainstay, not only for breakfast but to feed
needing kids, it only stands in for a quick lunch or supper."
He
slated further that egg is like a powerhouse for disease-fighting nutrients.
He
said.
"The egg is a powerhouse of disease-fighting nutrients like Lutein and Zeaxanthin.
These carotenoids reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration, the
leading cause of blindness in older adults. Eggs consumption enhances brain
development and memory due to its choline content."
