The raging outbreak of African Swine Fever has made a long leap forward has it has now surfaced for the first time in the largest and most-western Chinese region of Xianjing about 1,400km from the last reported case in Qinghai province in Eastern China.

The outbreak now leaves Mount Tibet and the island of Hainan as the only uninfected regions in the whole of China.

This development was made known in a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture (MARA) who stated that a total of 15 pigs have been lost due to the effects of the disease.

It also assured the community that adequate health and biosecurity measures have been put in place to mitigate further spread and to contain the virus.

The outbreak has also now been spotted in the Yunnan province as reported by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture.

The disease has since claimed a total of 105 pigs in ten different farms in the province.
