Oyebanji Calls for Federal Support to Expand Ekiti Livestock Sector

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has called for increased Federal Government support to develop the livestock sector, create jobs and expand economic opportunities in the state.

The governor made the appeal on Tuesday while receiving the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, who visited Ekiti to commission a veterinary hospital in Ado Ekiti and inspect ongoing Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support, L-PRES, projects.

Oyebanji said livestock development could improve agricultural production, create employment and increase farmers’ income. He also commended President Bola Tinubu for establishing a separate Ministry of Livestock Development and expressed his administration’s readiness to work with the Federal Government and private investors.

The minister praised the state’s efforts to use agriculture to address poverty and unemployment, assuring that the Federal Government would strengthen cooperation with Ekiti to boost production and expand the agricultural value chain.

Maiha’s inspection schedule included Ikun Dairy Farm, Emure Poultry Hub, the Ado Ekiti cattle market, a semi-automated abattoir project and the Erifun broiler processing plant.

The governor said Ekiti needed federal support to expand operations at Ikun Dairy Farm and strengthen livestock investment across the state.
