Vietnam, Ivory Coast Seek Stronger Agricultural and Aquaculture Ties

Vietnam and Côte d’Ivoire are exploring stronger cooperation in agriculture and aquaculture, with focus on technology transfer, investment and food security.

Côte d’Ivoire’s National Assembly President Patrick Achi and Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man visited agricultural and seafood companies in Can Tho on Tuesday.

The visit to rice producer Trung An gave the Ivorian delegation insight into Vietnam’s rice production, processing and export operations. Vietnam produces about 45 million tonnes of rice annually, compared with about two million tonnes in Côte d’Ivoire.

The delegation also visited a demonstration field featuring rice varieties for the 2026 summer-autumn harvest.

At seafood exporter Caseamex, the leaders examined aquaculture processing and export operations. The company’s pangasius products are exported to more than 50 countries and territories.

Achi said Côte d’Ivoire could serve as an entry point for Vietnamese companies seeking to expand into African markets.

He also called for greater Vietnamese investment in aquaculture equipment and technology transfer to support food security in Côte d’Ivoire.

The four-day visit, which began on August 23, is aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties between Vietnam and Côte d’Ivoire, particularly in agriculture, aquaculture and food processing.
