UK Salmonella Cases Climb to 474 as Imported Eggs Investigated

The number of confirmed Salmonella cases linked to three outbreaks in England has risen to 474, with two deaths reported.

The UK Health Security Agency says the outbreaks involve three strains of Salmonella Enteritidis and have been under investigation by health authorities, the Food Standards Agency and other partners.

The largest cluster has recorded 259 cases and one death. Another has 38 cases and one death, while the third has 177 cases with no deaths reported.

Officials say cases in all three clusters have increased since June 2026. Information from patients, including their food histories and genetic links between the strains, suggests the outbreaks may be connected to eggs imported into the UK.

Some cases have been associated with eating at small cafés, restaurants and takeaway businesses.

The UKHSA says the risk to the general public remains low.

The Food Standards Agency says there is currently no evidence that UK-produced eggs are affected.

Authorities are advising people to cook eggs thoroughly and maintain good food hygiene as investigations continue. Updates on the three outbreaks are expected weekly.
