The Federal Government has inaugurated a solar-powered livestock vaccine storage facility in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State, with a capacity of about 40 million doses.
Minister of Livestock Development, Mallam Idi Mukhtar, said the facility would improve vaccine availability, strengthen animal disease control and support livestock production in the North-East.
Mukhtar said diseases such as Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia and Foot-and-Mouth Disease continue to affect livestock productivity and limit Nigeria’s access to regional and international markets.
He stressed that vaccines must be stored under proper conditions to maintain their effectiveness, making a reliable cold-chain system important for disease control.
According to the Minister, the facility will serve as a regional hub for the North-East, helping to reduce vaccine wastage and improve distribution during vaccination campaigns.
He urged the Adamawa State Government, veterinary professionals and other stakeholders to maintain the facility and ensure livestock farmers benefit from it.
Adamawa Commissioner for Livestock and Aquaculture Development, Usman Lamurde, described the project as life-changing.
L-PRES officials said similar facilities are being implemented across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The Minister also inspected the Integrated Waste Management Plant at Jimeta Abattoir.
