Livestock Ministry Backs 2026 Animal Agriculture Conference

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development says it will collaborate with the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science for the 9th Animal Agriculture Conference scheduled to take place in 2026 in Nigeria.

The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, made this known on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in Abuja when a delegation from the Local Organising Committee, led by the institute’s registrar, visited his office.

He said the conference will feature lectures and exhibitions, and called on stakeholders, including private sector players, financial institutions and development partners, to support the event.

Maiha noted that the conference, earlier planned for 2025, was moved to 2026 to allow for better preparation. He added that expectations from the international community for Nigeria to host the event are high.

He also said all state offices of the ministry will participate in the conference.

Earlier, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Grace Jokthan, said the event will bring together experts, researchers and stakeholders from across Africa to discuss developments and best practices in animal agriculture and livestock production.

She said the conference aims to support sustainable economic growth and noted that preparations are ongoing, including logistics, partnerships and participant engagement.

Jokthan also appealed for the ministry’s support and guidance to ensure a successful event. She added that submission of papers and abstracts has started on the conference website, alongside awareness campaigns on social media to inform potential participants.
