Tarauni Local Government Area in Kano State says it has vaccinated 7,213 cattle against major livestock diseases, including Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia, cough, and flu.
The head of agriculture and natural resources in the council, Ado Dahiru, announced this during the vaccination campaign on Wednesday in Tarauni.
He said the exercise was carried out free of charge for herders in selected communities to support livestock production.
According to him, the programme is part of efforts by the local council, working with the state government, to improve animal health and reduce losses caused by preventable diseases.
The veterinary team leader, Hanga, said the campaign also focused on educating livestock owners on proper animal health practices. He noted that some diseases spread quickly during certain periods, making routine vaccination important.
The council chairman, Ahmed Ibrahim-Sekure, said the administration will continue to support agriculture and livestock development to improve livelihoods.
He also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for backing development projects in the state.
Herders who benefited from the programme thanked the council for bringing free veterinary services closer to their communities.
The vaccination was carried out in Baso Dantsinke, Idris Abubakar, and Muhammad Loga areas within the Unguwa Uku ‘Yan Awaki settlements in Tarauni.
