The Benue State Government has distributed more than 70,000 doses of transboundary animal disease vaccines to Divisional Livestock Officers across the state.
The vaccines were earlier received by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to tackle major livestock diseases.
According to the ministry, the package includes 50,000 doses of Contagious Bovine Pleuro-Pneumonia vaccine, 20,000 doses of Newcastle Disease vaccine, and 500 doses of Foot and Mouth Disease vaccine.
The 23 Divisional Livestock Officers and other staff received the vaccines during a visit to the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Benjamin Ashaver, in Makurdi, where issues affecting livestock services were discussed.
The State Director of Livestock Services, Dr Amase Gabriel, urged the officers to remain committed and carry out their duties with professionalism.
The commissioner said requests have been sent to Governor Hyacinth Alia and development partners to address challenges in the livestock sector.
He also said plans are in place to rehabilitate and reactivate abattoirs across the state and to restructure quarantine services under qualified professionals.
