Kenya is planning to export sheep to Algeria ahead of the Eid al-Adha festival. The plan follows talks between Kenya’s Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe, and Algeria’s Ambassador to Kenya, Farid Ouahid Dahmane.
Algerian officials recently visited Kenya to assess the country’s livestock production capacity. The delegation reviewed animal health systems and supply capacity. The visit was part of preparations for a possible export agreement.
Algeria is implementing a programme to import up to one million sheep to meet demand during the Eid al-Adha festival. Kenyan officials say the proposed deal could open a new export market for livestock farmers and traders.
Both countries also discussed wider agricultural cooperation. Areas mentioned include fertiliser supply, dairy trade and animal health support. Officials say discussions will continue as both sides review the proposed export arrangements.
