Among those sworn in were the new Commissioner for Livestock Development, Hon. Yerima Lawan Mahmud; the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Shehu; two Special Advisers, Mohammed Bukar Ibrahim and Yahaya Barde; and the Statistician-General, Abdulrahman Malik. Governor Buni urged the new officials to see their appointments as a call to service, adding that the government’s renewed focus on livestock is central to its economic diversification agenda.
He charged the new Livestock Development Commissioner to apply his experience and vision in driving the ministry toward sustainable growth. “We will invest heavily in livestock development through the establishment of veterinary clinics, water provision, fodder banks, and livestock vaccination against transboundary diseases,” Buni said. “Our goal is to harness Yobe’s rich livestock resources to make it Nigeria’s leading livestock-producing state.”
The governor also tasked the new Head of Service with revitalizing the civil service to deliver better results. He called for a culture of hard work, teamwork, and transparency, emphasizing the need to reward merit and uphold due process.
Buni further noted that the appointment of Special Advisers Ibrahim and Barde would strengthen the link between government and the people, ensuring that grassroots interests are reflected in state policies and programmes. He also highlighted the creation of the State Bureau of Statistics as a key step in providing data-driven guidance for policy formulation, ensuring efficient resource use and measurable progress.
Governor Buni’s message was clear: Yobe’s future lies in strong institutions, efficient governance, and a thriving livestock economy that improves livelihoods and drives inclusive growth across the state.
