Brazil Rekindles Poultry Trade with Malaysia, Unlocks Six New Agricultural Export Markets

Brazil has rekindled its poultry trade with Malaysia, marking a major breakthrough in its global agribusiness expansion. The decision comes alongside the opening of six new export markets for Brazilian agricultural products—a move expected to boost trade relations and strengthen food supply chains between the two nations. The announcement followed high-level discussions between Brazil’s Agriculture Minister, Carlos Favaro, and his Malaysian counterpart, Mohamad Sabu, during a diplomatic visit reported by Brasil247, a partner of TV BRICS.

The Malaysian market had previously halted imports of Brazilian chicken due to avian flu concerns, but both sides worked swiftly to restore confidence and reopen trade channels. Favaro revealed that what is typically a year-long negotiation process was wrapped up in just three months, crediting close cooperation and technical transparency for the rapid progress. “We came from Indonesia directly to Malaysia and held our first bilateral meeting with excellent news—the swift resumption of poultry trade,” he announced.

Brazil’s agricultural influence doesn’t stop at poultry. Malaysia has now approved the importation of a wider range of Brazilian goods, including wild and farmed fish, sesame seeds, melons, apples, and powdered eggs. The two countries also agreed to accelerate the audit of 16 Brazilian pork processing facilities, a crucial step toward greenlighting pork exports to Malaysia in the near future.

This renewed partnership highlights Brazil’s growing role as a reliable global food supplier while diversifying Malaysia’s sources of agricultural imports. Trade figures tell the story of a partnership on the rise—bilateral trade between the two nations reached US$487.2 million in 2024, with Brazil’s exports accounting for nearly three-quarters of that value. As both countries strengthen their agricultural ties, the agreement sets the stage for deeper economic cooperation and a more resilient global food network.
