Jigawa State is stepping onto the continental stage with a bold push to strengthen global alliances that will secure Nigeria’s food future. Governor Umar Namadi led a high-powered delegation to Dakar, Senegal, where he met with Hailemariam Dessalegn, Chairman of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), during the Africa Food Systems Summit.
At the heart of their discussions was a shared vision to transform Jigawa’s agricultural landscape. From expanding rice and wheat production to opening new markets and introducing modern farming techniques, the partnership is designed to empower smallholder farmers while making agriculture more productive and sustainable.
Governor Namadi highlighted that Jigawa already stands tall as Nigeria’s leading producer of wheat, rice, sesame, and hibiscus, but insisted that global partnerships remain essential to unlock its full potential. He tied the initiative directly to his administration’s 12-Point Agenda, underscoring agriculture as the backbone of Jigawa’s economy and a pathway to lasting prosperity.
The Governor’s delegation included senior officials across agriculture, livestock, research, and investment, all working to position Jigawa as a hub for innovation and growth. As the Africa Food Systems Summit continues in Dakar, the state’s engagement signals a commitment not only to food security in Nigeria but also to the broader transformation of Africa’s agricultural future.
