The theft, which took place at a poultry farm located near Mopol Barracks in the Owode area of Akure North, occurred over a period stretching from June 2024 to July 2025. Babatunde was accused of unlawfully breaking into the farm owned by Veronica Titus and making away with two electric motors, each valued at N650,000.
During the court proceedings, Police Prosecutor Nelson Akintimehin detailed how Babatunde carried out the theft and urged the court to hand down a stiff sentence to deter others from similar crimes. Despite pleading not guilty, Babatunde’s fate was sealed when the court considered the strength of the prosecution's evidence, including his confession.
Presiding Magistrate O. Omotosho ruled that the defendant was guilty of all charges. The court handed him two years imprisonment for the burglary count, with an option of a N200,000 fine, and one year each for the two counts of theft, with N50,000 fine options.
With the sentences set to run concurrently, Babatunde will serve a total of four years behind bars—unless the fines are paid.
