SOUTH PUNJAB — With the monsoon rains sweeping across the region, livestock experts are sounding the alarm: protect your animals now or risk dangerous disease outbreaks.
Dr. Jamshaid Akhtar, Deputy Director of Livestock, has issued a critical advisory to farmers, warning that the rainy season brings a surge in animal infections due to excess moisture, stagnant water, and mosquito breeding. Without proper care, animals are at high risk for foot rot, skin diseases, digestive disorders, and deadly illnesses like hemorrhagic septicemia and foot-and-mouth disease.

“This is a vulnerable time for livestock,” Dr. Akhtar said. “Simple precautions can save lives and ensure your animals stay healthy and productive through the season.”
To support farmers, the Livestock Department has deployed field teams across South Punjab and launched a 24/7 emergency helpline (08000-92111) for instant guidance and reporting of any disease outbreaks.
“Prevention is better than treatment,” Dr. Akhtar emphasized. “Taking action today can save your herd tomorrow.”
This monsoon, the message is clear: a few simple steps can make the difference between healthy animals and devastating losses.
