Napier Grass, commonly known as Elephant Grass, plays a vital role in the cut-and-carry feeding system for livestock. During his visit to the Wase Game Reserve on Tuesday, Mutfwang highlighted that this initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s broader strategy to advance livestock development across the country.
He emphasized that the project would not only strengthen livestock farming but also position Plateau as a significant player in the sector. Furthermore, he noted that the initiative would promote local animal husbandry and contribute to revenue generation through exports.
“With the vast expanse of land available within the game reserve, Plateau has the potential to lead Nigeria in livestock development, catering to both local and international markets,” he stated.
The governor reiterated his commitment to actualizing the President’s vision for Nigeria’s livestock economy, stressing that the allocation of land for Napier Grass cultivation in Wase was a strategic step toward achieving this goal.
To support large-scale farming in the area, Mutfwang assured residents that boreholes and other necessary infrastructure were being put in place.
As part of his visit, he also inaugurated several key projects completed by the local administration, including an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, accommodation for corps members, and a TV/radio station. Additionally, he laid the foundation for the construction of a legislative quarters for the LGA.
