In a groundbreaking initiative, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) has unveiled the #SolutionswithLegs campaign, aiming to spotlight livestock as a sustainable and crucial solution to the climate crisis. The campaign seeks to attract increased funding and attention to climate-smart solutions by amplifying the voices of farmers, herders, pastoralists, and livestock advocates.
With the goal of driving awareness and support, the campaign invites individuals to explore climate-smart solutions and the experiences of those on the frontlines of the livestock sector. The campaign website provides valuable resources and templates for interested participants, this is available at https://whylivestockmatter.org/solutions-legs.
Similar to last year, ILRI will share livestock-related events at COP28 and additional resources on the "Why Livestock Matters" website. Stakeholders are encouraged to contribute by promoting their events or sharing resources relevant to the cause.
A key element of the campaign is the social media initiative, #MyClimateSolution, offering a platform for frontline voices to share personal stories and solutions related to livestock.
For seven days starting from November 30, participants can use the hashtags #MyClimateSolution and #SolutionswithLegs on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook to share content showcasing individual climate actions within the livestock sector.
ILRI calls upon individuals to identify and connect with potential storytellers within their networks, encouraging them to share their experiences and practices on camera. The campaign seeks diverse perspectives from farmers, small entrepreneurs, youth, scientists, and policy experts who are driving positive change in the livestock sector.
Michael Victor, Head of Communications and Knowledge Management at ILRI, expressed gratitude for the invaluable support and urged livestock practitioners to share the campaign information within their networks. For inquiries and support in posting content, individuals can contact Mireille Ferrari or Madison Spinelli.
The #MyClimateSolution campaign is set to go live on November 30, coinciding with the commencement of COP28. Selected videos from participants will be featured on the Why Livestock Matter website, further amplifying the voices and solutions from all corners of the livestock community.
