Zoetis A.L.P.H.A. (Africa Livestock Productivity and Health Advancement) Initiative, with funding from Zoetis and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has launched a Mobile App to ease livestock disease diagnosis, animal sample collection, analysis and profiling for Veterinarians, Animal Health technicians, Laboratory scientists and other livestock practitioners in Nigeria, Uganda and some other African countries.

The Mobile App known as LabCards is designed to improve
livestock health and productivity in Sub-Saharan Africa through aiding proper
client management, digital sample monitoring, proper test and sample records,
access to quality laboratory, animal records and many more.
While speaking to our correspondent, Dr. Bankole O. Niyi,
the Field Diagnostic Manager (Zoetis ALPHA Initiative, Nigeria), explained that
“Sample taking is critical to effective diagnosis in veterinary medicine. But
once collected, the administrative burden should be at a minimum. LabCards can
keep that promise. Just select a matrix, a test type, a disease and optionally
a test methodology. That’s it. LabCards includes all of the major test-types
and -methodologies, so you don’t have to worry about missing out.”
“Nothing is more frustrating than not knowing what happened
to the samples sent to the laboratory. This feeling now belongs to the past
with LabCards, with one tap, LabCards provides you with an overview of all
requests you sent in, and their respective status.” He added.
Dr. Bankole said, LabCards works well for field veterinarians,
farmers or animal health technicians working in rural or sub-urban areas with
its effective offline feature.
“There is no need to bother about which laboratory is fit to deliver
quality diagnostic analysis, state-of-the-art diagnostic labs in Nigeria have
already partnered with LabCards and can be found in the app. Select one of
these labs and send the request containing the information about the samples.
This request is received almost immediately in the portal of that diagnostic
lab.” He explained.
“I know a lot of farmers, veterinarians, animal health
technicians and even laboratory scientist will like to understand how best they
can engage the use of LabCards. I am willing to help with that. Kindly join our
free training session on Zoom at 4pm (Nigerian Time) on Friday 03, July, 2020, using
this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83896600559?pwd=VUUzci95eExTemI0MTJJdnJLQVorQT09”
He concluded.
