The Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has expressed confidence in the snail and mushroom agricultural industries in the country stating that the country will soon be adequately self-sufficient in these areas.

He revealed this at the foundation laying ceremony for the new Bio-resources Development Centre in Imo State and also the establishment of its Zonal Training centre in the South East, a division of the Nigerian Institute of Leather Science and Technology which, according to Onu will go a long way in training the people in the management of bio-resources some of which include snails and mushrooms.

He stated the positive impacts of the centers will not be appreciated in the short term until they kick off work.

He expressed optimism in the effectiveness of the centers as a similar venture had been carried out in Bayelsa in the training of former militants in Bio-resources and leather production.

He encouraged the people to protect, manage and make full use of the centres when they begin work as in their own interest as well as the Federal Government.
