Sixty youth participants from Ogun, Anambra, Ebonyi benefited from the intervention programme of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) on the agricultural aspect of machinery equipment management.
The programme involved training on the use of farm equipment like threshers, hand-operated & machine planters, de-stoners, and tillers.
The intervention which took place in Awka, Anambra State had in attendance Mr. Nnamdi Aguncha, the state Programme Officer, Value Chain Development (VCDP), IFAD.
He revealed that the programme was conducted as a result of a survey which was carried out in 2018 which showed that youth population in agricultural vocations were low under the VCDP.
Mr. Aguncha explained that the reason for this was the rigorous nature of farm work and as such machinery had to be introduced in order to make the profession attractive for youths.
He further expressed optimism in this decision as it would encourage more youths to be involved in agricultural vocations.
He also revealed that the IFAD programme will assist the youths who took part in the training with a seventy percent cost off any implement chosen by any group that had their thirty percent grant on ground.
